Hey everyone. I’m Mike.
Take a look at the main image for this article… Yep, that is me, in all my glory. That photo was taken on July 4th, 2021. The month prior, I purchased about $1,000 worth of fireworks at a local retail shop. It was super badass to walk out of there with a grand worth of booms and “VIP Status” at the store to boot. 😁
Ever since I shot off those cakes and shells to Guns ‘n Roses’ “Welcome To The Jungle” cranked up on my tiny outdoor stereo bluetooth speakers, I was hooked. I became an obsessed pyro that day. No, like really… like a teenage girl at an Elvis Presley concert in 1957 kind of obsessed.
I’m naturally impatient. It’s a blessing and a curse. I like things to happen quickly. You get more done that way. I want to make my shows bigger and better, branch out into DMX and other effects, and push the limits. I know it will take time and will never be big or bad enough. But we’re gonna try!
When I first started getting serious about going from a novice to a well informed and experienced pyro, it was not impossible to find information, but it was harder than I thought it would be. It’s a niche hobby and there’s not as much info out there that’s useful for the novice to get up to speed quickly.
That’s what this adventure, “The Novice Pyro” is all about. We’re going to learn together.
We’re going to unpack the resources to get started, where to go for help, how to acquire the tools, and we’re going to have a lot of fun in the process.
The first thing I want to tackle is getting YOU, the me-two-years-ago novice, up to speed on what I know now. Starting with finding fireworks CHEAPER! Where to buy them, when to buy them, and more. There are tricks, so stay tuned for Episode #1 coming soon!
After that, the plan is to dive into resources like safety, tools, hardware, software, supplies, tips-and-tricks, getting creative, product reviews, and the list goes on and on. Eventually, I want to have an article and/or video on every topic along the way and sprinkle in a LOT of fun in between! It’s pretty ambitious but it’s gonna be epic.
I hope you all find The Novice Pyro content useful, informative, and engaging. I welcome constructive feedback. Oh, and please remember, I am a novice. If I am doing something legitimately wrong, feel free to drop me a hint so we can all learn from it. Make sure if you’re going to correct me on something that you can prove your point. I am always willing to admit a mistake and own it. I’ll probably even add episodes here and there about it. It’s gonna happen, but with a safety-first mindset, hoping I’ll keep my fingers ‘till the end.
